b. Vienna, April 1, 1772, 
d. Vienna, April 8, 1844, composer and music writer. One of the 
most important personalities in music during Vormaerz 
pre-revolutionary period before 1848, allegedly the first to conduct 
with a baton in 1812 in Vienna (apart from Landgrave Ludwig von Hessen 
1801). 1812-1816 directed annual music festivals of the  Gesellschaft 
der Musikfreunde in Wien; 1820-1829 deputy director of the two court 
theatres, from 1829 head of the court library.
