Muffat, Gottlieb, baptized Passau (Germany), April 25, 1690,
d. Vienna, Dec. 9, 1770, organist and composer. Son of Georg
Muffat. From approx. 1711 at the imperial court as "imperial student",
from 1717 "imperial organ player", taught the children of the royal
family (among them Maria Theresia); retired in 1764. composed music
for keyboard instruments only, following the baroque tradition of
organ playing. regarded as one of the last exponents of the baroque
Viennese school of organists.<< /P>
