Mother´s Day (2%%sup nd/%  Sunday in May), day on which 
motherhood is celebrated; first celebrated in America in 1905, 
introduced in Austria in the 1920s on the American model at the 
suggestion of Marianne  Hainisch by the "Bund der oesterreichischen 
Frauenvereine" (Federation of Austrian Women´s Organisations) 
founded by her. Mother's Day has found general acceptance as a secular 
commemoration day on which mothers are particularly honoured in a 
symbolic way.
