Neumann, Johann Philipp, b. Trebič (Czech Republic), Dec. 
27, 1774, d. Vienna, Oct. 3, 1849, physicist and librarian. 
1815-1845 professor at the Polytechnical Institute in Vienna (now 
University of Technology) whose library he established in 1816 and 
headed until 1843. Wrote the lyrics to the "Deutsche Messe" by F.  
Schubert.
