Niederwoelz, Styria, municipality in the district of Murau, alt. 
748 m, pop. 654, area 10.26 km%%sup 2/%, situated at the 
confluence of Woelzer Bach stream and River Mur/Mura. Niederwoelz 
power station (private); concrete block works - First documented 
mention 1234; parish church (first documented mention 1335), 
Romanesque rectangular construction with Gothic choir (1447) and vault 
that has been redecorated in Baroque style, wall and ceiling frescoes 
by J. A. Moelk (1778), wooden statue of St. Maximilian (around 1450), 
7 Baroque statues (second quarter of the 18%%sup th/%  century) from 
the workshop of B. Prandtstaetter; in the Woelzertal valley, mansion 
built by a family of bourgeois ironworks owners (1694, altered in 
1889).
