Nissel, Franz, b. Vienna, March 14, 1831, d. Bad 
Gleichenberg (Styria), July 20, 1893, playwright. As a student 
participated in the revolution of 1848; travelled extensively for many 
years. In the liberal he became one of the best-known playwrights in 
Austria and wrote mainly epigonic historical dramas (Heinrich der 
Loewe, 1858; Dido, 1863). 1878 awarded the Schiller Prize (with L. 
Anzengruber and A. Wilbrandt).
