!!!Nordwestbahn
Nordwestbahn, private railroad company that took over the Nordbahn
Floridsdorf-Stockerau railway line (built in 1841) and extended the
line via Hollabrunn-Retz-Znojmo to Moravia; nationalized in 1908.
Decreasing importance after 1918, Nordwestbahnhof station building "am
Tabor" (in Vienna´s 20%%sup th/% district) closed down in 1924
and later used for different events (political gatherings, winter
sports events on artificial snow). After World War II the
Nordwestbahnhof station and the Nordwestbahnbruecke railway bridge
were used temporarily, after the completion of the Nordbahn railway
bridge the Nordwestbahnhof station building was demolished in 1959,
the Nordwestbahn railway bridge integrated into a city motorway
(Nordbruecke bridge) and the area of the Nordwestbahnhof station used
as a cargo station. Passenger traffic from Retz to Znojmo, which had
been discontinued after 1945, was taken up again in 1990.
