!!!Norisches Eisen

Noric Iron, type of Iron, appreciated for its high quality and
steel-like characteristics in ancient times. It was produced in
Noricum and traded and processed within the entire Roman empire.
Archaeological evidence shows that the iron was smelted in the
Moeselgut area in the Goertschitztal valley south of Huettenberg. The
remains of large and unusual furnaces which seem to resemble furnaces
of today have been found in the area. It is not clear if the
Burgenland Iron that was used at the same time is another type of
Noric Iron; at the Magdalensberg mountain (Carinthia) 14 forges were
found that were used as "quality control centres" for Noric Iron.
