b. Vienna, June 28, 1944, political economist and politician 
(SPOe). Studied at the University of Vienna, the   (see) Institut fuer 
Hoehere Studien and Strasbourg University. Habilitated at the 
University of Linz, Upper Austria, spent some time in the USA and 
Germany, Professor of Economic Policy (Chair of Monetary and Fiscal 
Policy) at the Vienna University of Economic and Business 
Administration from 1982 to 1999. Member of the ''Nationalrat'' 
1978-99; since 1999 Vice-President of the European Investment Bank 
(EIB) in Luxembourg.
