Nymphenburg, Alliance of: After Maria Theresia´s accession to 
the throne, Bavaria and Spain concluded an alliance at Nymphenburg 
Palace near Munich on May 28, 1741, which aimed at distributing the 
Habsburg hereditary lands and supporting the Bavarian Elector Karl 
Albert as candidate for the crown of the Holy Roman Empire (Karl VII). 
This alliance contributed to the outbreak of the  Austrian Succession, 
War of the. A similar contract apparently concluded between Bavaria 
and France has been revealed as a forgery perpetrated by a French 
emigre.
