!!!Olah, Franz

b. Vienna, March 13, 1910, piano maker and politician (Austrian Social 
Democratic Party, SPOe). 1933-1945 political prisoner and internment 
in concentration camp. 1949-1957 Chairman of the Union of Construction 
and Wood Workers, played a decisive role in 1950 with the suppression 
of the communist strike; 1955-1959 Vice president and 1959-1963 
President of the OeGB (Austrian  Federation of Trade Unions). 
1945-1948 and 1969/70 he was member of the Landtag of Vienna and 
Municipal Councillor, 1948-1961 and 1962-1964 SPOe member of the 
Nationalrat, 1959-1961 2nd President of the Nationalrat, 
1964-1966 member of the Nationalrat, independent; 1963-1964 Federal 
Minister for Domestic Affairs; 1964 exclusion from the party and court 
conviction (1 year prison sentence) for misappropriation of trade 
union money. 1965 founded the Democratic Progressive Party (DFP), 
which received more than 3 % of the votes in 1966, but no 
mandate.
