!!!Orientalische Akademie

Orientalische Akademie (Akademie der Orientalischen Sprachen, Academy 
of Oriental Languages), established in 1754 by Empress Maria Theresia, 
directed at first by the Jesuits. In addition to the teaching of 
foreign languages (particularly Turkish), the academy offered general 
education and studies in law, as well as special training for the 
upper classes (fencing, dancing). From 1812, a 5-year programme was 
offered; in 1833 this was divided into a legal/diplomatic course of 
studies (5 years) and language studies (6 years); in 1898 the 
Orientalische Akademie became a diplomatic academy. ( Diplomatische 
Akademie) with oriental and occidental departments.
