!!!Orientierungslauf Orienteering (cross country running), a competitive sport originating in Scandinavia, in which the participants, using a map and a compass, must pass a certain number of checkpoints, either on foot or on skis. The orienteering organisation in Austria is the Vienna-based Oesterreichischer Fachverband fuer Orientierungslauf (Austrian Orienteering Association), which was founded in 1966 and has about 1200 members. Although this sport, which is dominated internationally by Scandinavian runners, is a fringe sport in Austria, the Austrian Lucie Boehm became world champion in the 1997 sprint competition. %%language [Back to the Austrian Version|AEIOU/Orientierungslauf|class='wikipage austrian'] %% [{FreezeArticle author='AEIOU' template='Lexikon_1995_englisch'}] [{ALLOW view All}][{ALLOW comment All}][{ALLOW edit FreezeAdmin}]
