Ottomans, Turkish dynasty founded by Othman I Ghasi, which ruled 
the Ottoman Empire from approximately 1300 to 1918. Like the Habsburg 
monarchy, the Ottoman Empire was a multi-ethnic state. The conflict 
between the two empires was for centuries a determining factor in 
Austrian  History .
