Ossiach, Lake, Carinthia, alt. 502 m, area 10.6 km%%sup 2/%, 
10.8 km long and 1.5 km wide; water temperature up to 
26°C, third-largest and shallowest (52 m) of the 3 large 
Carinthian lakes widely used as bathing places; north-east of Villach 
(alt. 501 m), good water quality. Gerlitzen mountain 
(1,909 m) north-west of the lake. Cableway from Annenheim (in the 
north-west, at 521 m alt.) to Kanzelhoehe mountain (observatory 
at 1,524 m); ruins of  Landskron Castle (676 m) in the 
south-west. Tourist resorts on the more densely populated northern 
shore of the lake include Sattendorf (545 m), Bodensdorf 
(525 m) and Steindorf (518 m). Towns: Ossiach (510 m) 
and Ostriach (516 m) on the southern shore. Ship connections 
between the major settlements on the lake. Railway lines and roads 
between Villach and St. Veit an der Glan via Feldkirchen in Carinthia 
run along the northern shore of the lake.
