!!!Ottonen, Herrschergeschlecht

Ottonen: The Kings and Emperors of this Saxon dynasty were of great
importance for Austria. Otto I's (936-973) victory at the Lechfeld
(Aug. 10, 955) was a prerequisite for the creation of marches; Otto II
(973-983) created the duchy of Carinthia in 976 and installed the
Babenbergs as Margraves; in 996, Otto III issued the document for
Freising in which Austria ( "Ostarrîchi") is first mentioned.
Heinrich II (1002-1024) gave valuable gifts to the Babenbergs.
