Poestlingberg Mountain, Upper Austria, alt. 539 m, local
mountain of Linz and popular destination for day-trips above the left
bank of the River Danube in the district of Urfahr, affording an
admirable view of the area; many recreational opportunities, grotto
railway (built in 1906, underground track with fairy-tale figures,
deer enclosure in former moat) and Poestlingberg-Bahn railway
(steepest adhesion railway in the world, built in 1897/98; the line
ends at the tower of an outer fort built between 1831 and 1837);
conservation area; place of pilgrimage since 1720; Baroque pilgrimage
church (1738-1774), pyramidal tower roofs by R. Jeblinger (1891/1892),
ceiling frescoes (around 1900) by A. Groll. One tower collapsed after
a fire and was rebuilt in 1963.
