Poettsching, Burgenland, market town in the district of Mattersburg, 
alt. 218 m, pop. 2,316, area 24.64 km%%sup 2/%, east of 
Wiener Neustadt, near the border between Burgenland and Lower Austria. 
- Children´s village, Lake Roemersee holiday resort; 
Markusquelle mineral spring with table water bottling plant, 
wood-processing industry, engine production, fruit growing and wine 
growing. - Goes back to an old Pecheneg settlement (nomadic tribe from 
Eastern Europe). Catholic parish church (renovated between 1722 and 
1728, later alterations); wayside shrines. In the vicinity of Lake 
Poettschinger See, sub-bituminous mining in earlier times.
