Peggau, Styria, market town in the district of Graz-Umgebung, alt. 
405 m, pop. 2,063, area 11.20 km%%sup 2/%, situated on the 
river Mur, north of Graz, at the foot of the Peggau Face (many caves). 
Starting-point for excursions to the  Lurgrotte Cave (largest 
stalactite cave in Austria, Lurgrotten Cave Museum); other caves in 
the area are the Badlhoehle and Repolusthoehle caves in Badl graben 
(earliest evidence of civilisation in Styria), and the 
Kugelsteinhoehle (west of the river Mur) and Wildemannloch caves. - 
Labour Market Service, Gebietskrankenkasse (regional health and social 
insurance agency); cement works, welding appliances, pallet 
production, sand and stone quarry, production of trailers. - Church 
originally built in late Gothic style, rebuilt in Baroque style before 
1724, with frescoes by J. C. Hackhofer, high altar in Rococo 
style with paintings by J. A. Moelk, organ (1774) by F. Schwarz; 
Protestant church (1906); castle ruins on a rock southeast of the 
town, pillory.
