Peilstein im Muehlviertel, Upper Austria, market town in the district 
of Rohrbach im Muehlkreis, alt. 584 m, pop. 1,672, area 
23.31 km%%sup 2/%, situated on the river Kleine Muehl, in the 
northern part of Muehlviertel Region. - Predominantly agricultural, 
some building enterprises, wood processing. - Early Classicistic hall 
church (1770) with altarpiece by A. Hitzenthaler (1789-1793) and 
sculptures by J. Teitl.
