Pernegg, Lower Austria, market town in the district of Horn, alt. 
530 m, pop. 782, area 36.60 km%%sup 2/%, north of Horn, in 
the northeastern part of the Waldviertel region. - Wood processing, 
transport enterprises. Former Premonstratensian convent (from 1153, 
ceased to exist in 1585, later re-opened by Premonstratensians from 
Geras, closed in 1783), today a health and therapeutic resort; former 
collegiate church, now a parish church, late Gothic pier church with 
figural ceiling paintings (1603) and elaborate stucco (1694), pulpit 
(1618) with sculptural decor, baptistry (former charnel house, 
14%%sup th/%  century); the former convent building (today parts 
of it used as rectory, parts in ruins) had fortification walls and 
round towers, its interior is decorated with murals, vault paintings 
and stucco, tabernacle pillar (1539).
