Persenbeug-Gottsdorf, Lower Austria, market town in the district of 
Melk, alt. 225 m, pop. 2,033, area 8.32 km%%sup 2/%, on the 
north side of the River Danube opposite Ybbs an der Donau, at the 
opening of the Nibelungengau section. The Danube then flows around the 
alluvial land "Auf der Scheibe" near Gottsdorf. - Highway 
maintenance depot, dam of the Ybbs-Persenbeug run-of-river power 
station (built in 1957, 203.5 MW); road across the Danube; 
furniture factory, building industry. - Documented mention in 863, 
commercial centre since the 16%%sup th/%  century; important ship 
building centre, with shipmaster M. Feldmueller (1801-1850). Modern 
parish church, late Gothic Floriani chapel (former parish church) with 
Baroque high altar (around 1700); Castle with mediaeval elements, late 
Renaissance building, exterior erected between 1617-1621.
