b. Trieste (Italy), May 21, 1878, 
d. Vienna, Dec. 18, 1951, physicist. Studied at the University of 
Technology in Vienna, from 1911-1914 at the 
Staatstelegraphenverwaltung, from 1918 at the Dutch telegraph 
administration service,  from 1928-1951 professor of telegraphy and 
electrical communication engineering at the University of Technology 
in Vienna (forced into retirement from 1938-1945), where in 1929 he 
established the Weak Current Department and turned it into one of the 
leading research centres of the wireless communication network.
