b. Ybbs (Lower Austria), Feb. 24, 1685, 
d. Melk (Lower Austria), Oct. 14, 1762, from 1703 Benedictine in Melk, 
brother of Bernhard  Pez. Initially grammar school teacher. 1735-1739 
librarian, 1753 member of the "Societas literaria Germano Benedictina" 
and 1761 of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences. On study trips with his 
brother Bernhard compiled collections which became a valuable source 
of information on Austrian history.
