Piberstein Castle Ruin, Upper Austria, impressive castle ruin in the 
municipal area of Ahorn between Waxenberg and Helfenberg in the 
Muehlviertel region, parts are being used as residential houses; 
documented mention in 1285, unsuccessfully besieged by the Hussites in 
1427, extensive reconstruction during the Renaissance period and 
erection of the gatehouse. The central building with corner towers is 
surrounded by a circular wall with square gate building and 4 
semicircular towers; the inner castle yard has pergolas with pointed 
arches and Tuscan columns; sgraffito paintings (1620).
