Poigen, Lower Austria, village in the municipality of 
St. Bernhard-Frauenhofen in the district of Horn, which gave its 
name to an important dynasty of medieval counts; first documented 
mention in 1108; the counts of Poigen ruled over the Horn basin from 
the end of the 11%%sup th/%  century to the beginning of the 
13%%sup th/%  century; their realm was called 
"Poigreich" until the 18%%sup th/%  century. They 
founded the monastery of  Altenburg. The Poig-Rebgau line died out 
before 1188/1189, the Poig-Hohenburg-Wildberg line before 1210.
