Poigenfuerst, Johannes, b. Vienna, March 19, 1929, surgeon 
specialising in traumatology and orthopaedic surgery. Studied medicine 
in Vienna; did surgical training in Vienna, Berlin, Sweden and England 
in 1955-1962 and in New York in 1967-1968. Since 1983 university 
professor; has operated in numerous hospitals in Austria and abroad 
(e.g. Berlin, Stockholm, New York). 1971-1984 professor at the First 
Department of Surgery for Traumatology and Orthopaedic Surgery, 
University of Vienna; since 1984 head of traumatology and orthopaedic 
surgery at the Lorenz-Boehler Hospital in Vienna. Co-editor of the 
periodicals "Aktuelle Traumatologie" and 
"Unfallchirurgie". 1994 triggered a debate about the law 
regulating working hours in hospitals, which came to be known as the 
"Affaere P."(P. affair).
