!!!Pola-Expeditionen

Pola Expeditions: From 1890 to 1898 the transport steamer 
"Pola" made four oceanographic exploratory expeditions in 
the Mediterranean Sea and two in the Red Sea. On 
July 28%%sup th/% , 1891, during the 2%%sup nd/% 
 expedition, the greatest depth of the Mediterranean 
(4,404 m) was sounded ("Pola depth") 50 miles 
south-west of Cape Matapan between latitude 
35° 44´ 48" N and longitude 
21° 45 48" E.
