Pongratz, Peter, b. Eisenstadt (Burgenland), May 22, 1940, 
painter. 1960-64 studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and the 
Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin; 1964-1970 assistant of M.  Weiler in 
Vienna; 1968 member of the group of artists called 
"Wirklichkeiten", which included F.  Ringel and K.  
Kocherscheidt; from 1975 spent several years in Venice. 1979-1987 
concentrated mainly on designing film and stage sets; from 1992 the 
major themes of his art were taken from the Balkan wars (e.g. the 
cycle "Das Herz der Finsternis").
