Pottendorf, Lower Austria, market town in the district of Baden, 
alt. 218 m, pop. 5,482, 
area 39.82 km%%sup 2/%, in the south east of the Vienna 
Basin. - Industrial and commercial business, Labour Market Service, 
regional health and social insurance agency, Caritas; carpet factory, 
manufacture of plastic products and gate drives, large-scale 
distribution of beverages, from 1801 yarn manufacture, textile 
industry, closed down in 1976. - Baroque parish church built over a 
ground plan in the shape of a cross (designed and built by 
J. L. v. Hildebrandt between 1714 and 1716) with 
altar-pieces by Peter Strudel and J. G. Schmidt (1717); moated 
castle (first documented mention in 1136); late Gothic palace chapel, 
four-wing building from the 16%%sup th/%  century, extended at 
the beginning of the 18%%sup th/%  century, since 1945 in a state 
of dilapidation; English garden.
