Prizes and Awards: In Austria, prizes and awards are mainly given for 
scientific and cultural achievements, sponsors are numerous public and 
private institutions. In addition, fellowships are awarded to artists 
(esp. for persons working in the field of fine arts) to enable them to 
work in studios in Austria and in other countries. The federal, 
provincial and municipal governments, various institutions and 
enterprises award prizes worth more than ATS 50,000 (sometimes 
covering a period of several years), of which some may also be shared 
between a larger number of persons (see table).
