b. Vienna, May 6, 1836, 
d. Rekawinkel (Lower Austria), Feb. 25, 1894, municipal politician. 
From 1869 member of the Viennese municipal council, 1889-1894 first 
Mayor of Vienna. Abolished the "Linienwall" (ramparts around the outer 
limits of the town originally as a defence against the Kuruc rebels) 
as a tax border. 1891 first local elections to include the suburban 
population.
