b. Thueringen (Vorarlberg), Nov. 12, 1928, studied law, politician 
(Austrian People´s Party, OeVP). From 1953 manager in the 
private sector, 1984-1987 managing director of the Jacobs-Suchard 
group. 1964 entered politics. 1964-1997 member of the Landtag of 
Vorarlberg, 1974-1987 its president, 1987-1997 Landeshauptmann of 
Vorarlberg. Advocated a "Europe of regions" ("Europa der Regionen").
