Puschnig, Wolfgang, b. Klagenfurt (Carinthia), May 21, 1956,
composer, musician. Studied musicology at the University of Vienna as
well as saxophone and flute at the Vienna Conservatory and the Vienna
Musikhochschule (now University of Music and Performing Arts). 1977
co-founded the Vienna Art Orchestra, of which he was a member until
1989. Collaborated with other artists, e.g. M. Rueegg, H. Koller and
E. Jandl; composed music for film and theatre productions in Austria
and abroad; in recent years has developed a particular interest in
East Asian music and how it can be synthesised with Western improvised
music. Awarded the Hans Koller Prize in 1998.
