Pyhra, Lower Austria, market town in the district of St. Poelten, alt. 
298 m, pop. 3,082, area 66.74 km%%sup 2/%, situated on the 
Upper Perschling river south-east of St. Poelten. - Supervisory 
station of Vienna´s second spring water supply system; 
construction firms, saw mill. - Parish church, one of the most 
important religious buildings in Lower Austria, built in 1300, but 
later altered, altarpiece by M. J. Schmidt (1772), splendid 
Renaissance tombs (16%%sup th/%  century). Wald Castle, dating back to 
the 15%%sup th/%  century, expanded in the 16%%sup th/% /17%%sup th/% 
 centuries, art collection belonging to the Lamberg-Breuner 
family.
