Studied from 1913 to 1917 at the Munich Academy and rapidly gained recognition for his woodcut book illustrations. As a teacher (Folkwang School, Essen 1922-31, ''Hochschule'' ''fuer Kunsterziehung,'' Berlin-Schoeneberg 1934-44, ''Staatliche Akademie der'' ''bildenden Kuenste'', Stuttgart 1947-60) Roessing exerted considerable influence on the development of graphic arts in Germany.
