Raffalt, Ignaz, b. Weisskirchen in Steiermark (Styria), July 21, 
1800, d. Hainbach near Vienna, July 6, 1857, landscape, genre and 
portrait painter, father of the painter Johann Gualbert R. 
(1836-1865), studied at the Vienna Academy, lived in Styria and in 
Carinthia where he practised art only sporadically; from 1840 in 
Vienna. In his early years mainly a portraitist and genre painter, 
later concentrated on the painting of emotionally expressive 
landscapes from the Austrian Alpine and Danube regions.
