!!!Raimundtheater
Raimundtheater, theatre in Vienna's 6%%sup th/% district, established
by an association of Viennese citizens in 1893; it was opened with a
Zauberspiel (fairy-tale play), "Die gefesselte Phantasie"
("Fantasy fettered"), by F. Raimund, its managing director until 1896
was A. Mueller-Guttenbrunn. At first mainly popular plays were
staged, later operettas took their place; between 1921 and 1924 plays
were reintroduced as the main focus by the managing director R. Beer.
After 1945, under managing director R. Marik (1948-1976), operetta
again became very popular, with stars like J. Heesters, M. Roekk
etc. A number of famous actresses and actors started their career in
the Raimundtheater, e.g. H. Niese, P. Wessely, A. Hoerbiger, K.
Skraup, others gave guest performances there (A. Sandrock, E. Duse).
The Raimundtheater was restored and modernised in 1984/85, since 1987
it has formed part of th association of theatres, Vereinigte Buehnen
Wien, concentrating on operettas and musicals.
