Rauch-Kallat, Maria, b. Vienna, Jan. 31, 1949, teacher and 
politician (Austrian People´s Party, OeVP). 1987-1992 member of 
the Vienna Landtag and member of the Vienna City Council, from 
1983-1987 member of the Bundesrat; from 1995-1999 member of the 
Nationalrat; 1992-1994 Federal Minister for the Environment, Youth and 
the Family, from 1995 Federal Minister for the Environment, since 
1995l secretary general of the Austrian People´s Party (OeVP). 
As the mother of a blind daughter she is particularly committed to the 
problems of the handicapped. P>
