Rauchmiller (Rauchmueller), Matthias, b. Radolfzell (Germany), Jan. 11, 1645,
d. Vienna, Feb. 5, 1686, sculptor, ivory carver and painter. Settled
in Vienna in 1675. Highly talented artist at the transition from early
to high baroque; was a major influence on Austrian sculpture around
1700.

assisted in the work on the plague column in Vienna, Wiener
Pestsaeule, from 1682; ivory carvings, Vaduz, 1676; terracotta model
of Saint John of Nepomuk for the Charles Bridge in Prague, 1681;
murals in the Dominican Church in Vienna, from 1675.
