Bar Associations, professional organisations in each Austrian 
province, acting as representative body and interest group for 
practising lawyers (Rechtsanwaelte), established by law in 1849; its 
organs are elected. Bar associations are entitled to impose 
disciplinary punishments for breaches of professional ethics. The Bar 
Association Meeting deals with significant matters affecting the 
profession. Bar Associations and the Bar Association Meeting are 
supervised by the Ministry of Justice.  Chambers.
