Judicial Assistance (letters rogatory), the practice of a (district) 
court other than the one having jurisdiction performing official acts 
on grounds of expediency at the request (letters rogatory) of the 
court of jurisdiction. Under international agreements Austrian courts 
also give such assistance at the request of foreign courts. In the 
absence of such an agreement regarding criminal cases the provisions 
of the extradition rules and the Judicial Assistance Act apply.
