Reichsdeputationshauptschluss, decision of the last special Deputation
of the German Estates of February 25, 1803; compensated the secular
princes for the cession of the left bank of the River Rhine to France
(Treaty of Luneville 1801) with ecclesiastical estates. In return for
the county of Falkenstein, Austria was given the bishoprics of Trento
and Bressanone, which were incorporated into the Tirol. It also
received those estates of the archdiocese of Salzburg and of the
dioceses of Passau, Regensburg and Freising that were located in
Austrian lands. Ferdinand, brother of Emperor Franz II, was
compensated for his loss of Tuscany with the archdiocese of Salzburg,
Berchtesgaden and parts of the dioceses of Passau and Eichstaett as
secular electorate.
