Reischek, Andreas sr., b. Linz (Upper Austria), Sept. 15, 1845, 
d. Linz (Upper Austria), April 3, 1902, naturalist, explorer, father 
of Andreas  Reischek jr. Curator at the Landesmuseum in Linz, Upper 
Austria, 1877-1889 travelled to New Zealand 8 times, where he 
continued the ethnological studies of F. v.  Hochstetter and 
researched the Maori culture. Also carried out ornithological studies 
and brought back a substantial collection of birds (16,000 objects).
