!!!Reith im Alpbachtal

Reith im Alpbachtal, Tirol, municipality in the district of Kufstein, 
alt. 637 m, pop. 2,510 (1981: pop. 2,174), area 
27.40 km%%sup 2/%, bi-seasonal tourism (350,255 overnight stays 
in 1992), situated on an Alpine plateau above the Unterinntal valley 
and the Alpbach river; 1952-1976 named "Reith bei Brixlegg". 
- Trades (e.g. manufacture of shingles); baryte mining (discontinued). 
- Old settlement and old parish (first documented mention 976). In the 
15%%sup th/%  -19%%sup th/%  centuries, silver and copper mining on 
the Reither Kogel mountain (1,336 m).- Classicist parish church 
(1801-1805 by A. Hueber) with vault frescoes; cemetery chapel (1338) 
with Gothic core; ruins of Kropfsberg fortress (Romanesque, 
1%%sup st/%  half of the 13%%sup th/%  century), was centre of 
administration of the archdiocese of Salzburg, fell into disuse after 
1600, 3 impressive keeps, long curtain wall; Matzen Fortress (first 
documented mention 1278), circular tower and western tract 
(13%%sup th/%  century), rebuilt in 1873 after it had fallen into 
disuse, Neu-Matzen Palace located in the park (1890); 
St. Gertraudi church adapted in Baroque style; Unterinntaler 
Einhof farmhouse types. Customs: "Ankloeckeln" (Advent 
singers going from house to house) and "Grasauslaeuten" 
(sounding bells to encourage the grass to grow), St. Nicholas plays 
(every 7 years).
