Rendulic, Lothar, b. Wiener. Neustadt (Lower Austria), Nov. 23, 1887, 
d. Eferding (Upper Austria), Jan. 18, 1971, officer and diplomat. 1910 
lieutenant, 1934/35 military attache in Paris; dismissed because of 
his connections to the NSDAP; from 1938 in the German Wehrmacht, 
1939-1943 division commander and commanding general of an army corps, 
from August 1943 commander-in-chief of the Second Armoured Brigade in 
the Balkans, from 1944 commander of the 20th mountain corps in 
Scandinavia, towards the end of the war commander-in-chief of the S. 
army group. 1948 sentenced to 25 years imprisonment by the 
International Military Tribunal, pardoned and released in 1951. Wrote 
and published until his death.
