Republic, Day of the: November 12, the day of the proclamation of the 
1%%sup st/%  republic (1918), was Austria´s national holiday 
until 1934; it was only celebrated by the Social-Democrats with 
parades. It was not re-introduced after 1945; instead, October 26 
became the new  National Holiday in 1965.
