Richter, Hans, b. Gyoer, Hungary (then Raab), April 4, 1843, 
d. Bayreuth (Germany), Dec. 5, 1916, conductor of European class, the 
first true Wagnerian conductor; 1875-1900 first conductor at the court 
opera, 1875-1998 also conductor of the Philharmonic Concerts in 
Vienna, whose good reputation he created. 1880-1890 conductor of the 
Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna, later of the Bayreuth 
Festival, where in 1876 he led the first complete performance of "Der 
Ring des Nibelungen"; from 1911 in England; also propagated the works 
of A.  Bruckner.
