!!!Riedel, Andreas Freiherr von
Riedel, Baron (from 1792) Andreas von, b. Vienna, Sept. 12, 1748,
d. Paris (France), Feb. 15, 1837, officer, Jacobin. 1764-1770 attended
the Theresianische Militaerakademie (military academy) in Wiener
Neustadt, became land surveyor and 1779-1790 mathematics teacher to
the children of grand duke Peter Leopold (later to become emperor
Leopold II) in Florence; R. formulated a draft for a constitution
(a people´s council with 800 members), wrote and distributed a
pamphlet "Aufruf an alle Deutschen zu einem antiaristokratischen
Freiheitsbund". 1794 arrested as a political criminal, sentenced to
imprisonment in the fortress of Kufstein, 1796 in Graz and 1797 in
Munkács. 1806 transferred to the Minorite monastery in Brno
from where he escaped and fled to France in 1809.
