b. Braunau am Inn (Upper Austria), Jan. 3, 1961, after law studies 
embarked on a political career (FPOe). From 1987 in the press service 
of FPOe; 1991-98 member of the ''Bundesrat'', 1995-96 member of the  
European Parliament, 1999 member of the Provincial Diet of Tirol, 
1999-2000 member of the ''Nationalrat''; since 2000 chairperson of the 
 Freiheitliche Partei Oesterreichs, at the same time Vice-Chancellor 
and Federal Minister for Public Services and Sport.
